In an effort to inspire female students and give them the tools and confidence they need to succeed, Walter G. O’Connell Copiague High School held its first voice to voice empowerment session in the school’s library on Dec. 7. The mission of the new initiative is for women to empower each other through conversation and teamwork.
The program’s guest speaker was aDrena Mahoney – a Walter G. O’Connell Copiague High School graduate and teacher at Walter G. O’Connell Copiague High School and step team coach – who spoke about her upbringing, her education and her career and life decisions.
Following her speech, Mahoney answered questions from the students in attendance. Working together in teams, the students reflected on the lessons learned and shared their thoughts in a brief presentation with their peers.
